Shakey's and Gising-Gising

Tomatokick: Gising-Gising (loosely translated as Wake up, Wake up)a dish named like this obviously connotes a certain heat level. It is pleasantly spicy(at least for me), served on a sizzling plate. Usually eaten as pulutan (bar food)--squid, tofu, tahong(local clams), green bell peppers, mushrooms and loads of sili(Thai chili peppers)!! I just hate it when the smoke goes all up in your face and sticks to your clothes.Cheese pizza: the simple things are always divine. side salad, half a hero sandwich and chicken: what can I say? it is what it is.

  1. Would love to try the Gising-Gising, looks awesome! If you had a recipe to post that would be great.
Cheese pizza is my favorite pizza, doesn't need anything else smothering it.

  2. From what I can make out of this dish, (ordered this from a bar), it's really simple to make. Some recipes add coconut milk and string beans.

    1. Saute garlic and onion. (LOADS of it)
    2. Stir fry clams, sliced squid and button mushrooms.
    3. Then add fried tofu, green bell peppers, Thai chili peppers last (this dish used the small red ones and the large green chili variants)
    4. Add dark soy sauce and oyster sauce deliberately, adjusting to your taste.
    5. Season with salt and pepper (optional-the soy sauce makes this salty)
    6. Serve immediately on a sizzling plate.

  3. You can also thicken the sauce by adding a teaspoon of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water then bring it to a boil.
