Pho Hoa

a quick afternoon snack at Pho Hoa. Now, would you still want to eat at Mann Hann(overrated Chinese resto where people fall in line for, the service is horrid and the food is so-so)? Guess not. So glad I live in Southeast Asia where food is as delicious as this.

Wonderful mint leaves, lemon wedge + Sriracha + Hoisin for my soup.

The plain rice noodles goes great with the charred bits of barbecue.

THIS is great tofu, peppers, mushrooms and minced meat, YUM.

Korean Vogue circa 2007. I plan on cutting my hair like this. Hubby says it will look good on me. My mom will think otherwise.

Graduation is coming up, and for my creative shot, my peg is, of course, Bjork. I really do like her music, not just because many people think I'm her doppelganger. :)

Kiss the Cook

had dinner with my hubby at Kiss the Cook Cafe, hayy, they never fail to make my sour mood turn into sheer joy. :D Hubby ordered Moroccan Fish Fillet with brown rice, and I the 5-spice Asian Spareribs which is very spicy, the chopped chillies and garlic are so wonderfully hot!

I took a little trip to Royce' Chocolates and got a box of coconut baton cookies, so light and rich and yummy. :))

Nata Love

Wow, I dreamt of this dessert, it looks so GOOD. Thai people are awesome.
Coolest Crafted Coconut
And another great thing from Thailand, I'm so obsessed with this drink right now, it contains bits of nata de coco which is so yummy, I just love that texture.

Mary Grace Cafe + Royce'

2 weeks without internet, cos some damn cats messed up our antenna etc. REALLY. Anyhoo. Midterms, a couple of gigs next week, kinda worried. >_<"
Prawn salad with mango-papaya vinaigrette from Mary Grace Cafe, and grilled chicken with tomato concasse on couscous, wonderful meal, I love the cashews and dates in my couscous. :)

Oh and this decadent creamy milk chocolate bar from Royce' Chocolates. Can finish this in one sitting. Will try the black and rum raisin bars next time.

I never wanted a pair of Chuck Taylors so badly like this Commes des Garcons Play by Converse. I heard it's going to be available here in Manila soon. ;) Gaaaaaahhhhh.

Kiss the Cook

I had late lunch with the hubby yesterday at Kiss the Cook Cafe. I was pretty surprised about the food, which is quite good. :) Somewhat pricey, but it's what date places are all about right? This is the BEST resto in Maginhawa, REALLY. :)

I ordered bolognese spaghetti with red wine and sundried tomatoes, the piece of garlic bread was the real winner for me though, it's not your usual pesto it's quite herby and delicious.

The Lemongrass cooler was yummy and refreshing and I think it has hints of ginger.

Hubby ordered tofu with asian stir-fried veggies (baby corn, mushrooms, beansprouts etc). Now this is truly delightful. The tofu is super fresh and really melts in your mouth. I might try the curried shrimp salad next time. :)

Covergirl's Outlast Lipstain: I totally swear by it, lasts all day AND you won't have that lip skin and lipstick gunk in the sides of your mouth(GROSS) think of it as a Stabilo highlighter pen. ;)

Sandy Strawberry

Baked these a while ago, Ana's sandy strawberry thumbprint cookies. Why are my cookies always sandy? They taste like a cross between shortbread and biscotti. :/ Well, have a MERRY FATTY CHRISTMAS!!

Van Gogh is Bipolar

I went to this new art cafe a couple of months ago called Van Gogh is Bipolar. Really amusing place, and the food is good. :) I plan to visit again SOON.

I had this guava-mango organic tea first (they let you choose your teapot etc.)

I ordered these hot cherry potatoes with a kind of balsamic reduction which is really yummy, and vegetable, spinach and whole wheat pasta
sautéed in virgin olive oil, garlic and onions in Salmon - Basil - Sauce--the pasta is so yummy.

And for dessert: this had to be the most interesting dessert I ever tasted,it's a piece of chocolate with toasted almonds and fruits laced with vodka, oh it also contains dried mango, my favorite. But the best part of it was the thinnest of slice of green apple, soaked in vodka sprinkled with a bit of chili pepper, this was a flambe by the way. So weird, but so ruled. :D

Five Cows

Had dinner at an ice cream store called 5 Cows... I must say, they have the best Margherita pizza. That's all I ever order from there, not really a fan of their ice cream. :O

Royce'

Loving Royce' chocolates!! I will try the Nama Chocolate soon. The BEST potato chips ever--so yummy, salty+chocolatey sweet, I plan to make some of my own. :p

Pot Roast

Our house help is away so my husband and I made dinner: Pot Roast with ginger, peppers and potatoes and Spaghettini Carbonara with potatoes and maple-syrup bacon. Pardon my phone camera, I should buy a DSLR. :/
These are super yummy to look at and wear.

I've been obsessed with these tiny tubes of lip balm. These are so yummy and usually I hate reapplying lip products but this one I love.

Putong Ube

I am recently obsessed with these tiny puto (steamed rice muffins). Normally they are white and have salted egg and/or cheese on top. These come in ube (purple yam), pandan (green ones-pandan is a leaf used to flavor our rice and our sweet drinks with shaved ice and tapioca), cheese, and muscovado (dark brown sugar). These are so YUMMY.

Man, I miss the beach. El Nido, Palawan is the ultimate. It's better than Phuket, Thailand, mind you.

Pangalusian Island

A little bit of trivia: Alex Garland's "The Beach" was inspired by El Nido. He wrote the novel while living there. The film (yes, that Leo movie) wasn't allowed to shoot in El Nido for environmental reasons, so instead they opted for Ko Phi Phi Lee in Thailand.

Minilok Island

Don't you wish you can just live by the beach? So glad I live in a tropical country, beaches are just two hours away. ;) This one though, took us an hour via charter plane that reminded me of the movie, Madagascar. This place is too stunning for words.

Impunity - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

It is election season here in the Philippines, and violence reigns over. As of today, there are 57 bodies found in Maguindanao, Mindanao, Philippines. The decapitated, slaughtered bodies of women and journalists joining the gubernatorial slate of Vice Mayor Mangudadatu. It's not just about political dynasties waging war on each other, it affects everyone, every Filipino. This is an attack on our freedom, we are now bound with fear. Fuck you, GMA, you have forgotten about Mindanao and this land is now terrorized by warlords and their private armies.

"It is perversion so systematic it carries with it its own violent logic: the vote is meaningless, the public’s will is the warlord’s will, life is puny."
